Galgun: First Look

So I downloaded and played the demo, and I have to say: wow. This is a piece of work. Here's a video created by a Japanese blogger containing the first stage of the game as presented in the demo:

The idea is, you are a regular schoolboy named Tenzou. By mistake, a trainee cupid named Patako (who sounds suspiciously like Tamura Yukari) hits you with 16 love arrows, making you totally irresistable to regular girls. (This was your day to be hit by a single arrow, allowing you your "day of being popular" but she screwed up and overdosed.)

Due to this overdose, you have an aura that attracts girls. They come after you, zombie-like, trying to hand you love letters and confessing their undying devotion. To fend this off, you are armed with pheromone shots, which will... how do I put this... bring the girls to climax. Once that happens, they stop chasing you.

However, if their confessions get to you, that "damages" you, and if your "health" goes down to zero then you are faced with a choice of going out with that girl (bad end) or have Patako help you go back to the beginning of the stage.

So now you must get a girlfriend by the end of the day, or you will never get one. Can't have that, can we? So she asks you questions to determine your type, and asks you who you want to pursue. The rest of the game is in pursuit of this girl (in the demo, you can only choose your childhood friend Kaname).

This doesn't come easy, because she is immune to your cupid-enhanced charms, and she has spirit-energy Guardians that will cancel out the effects of your pheromone shots. So you have to figure out how to get past those Guardians and make her yours before the day ends.

Whew!

The opening song is by the four main heroines. It's definitely not your regular shooting game.

What with the rail shooting, the minigames with the heroines, and the "dokidoki mode" where you can get info on each individual girl, it's actually a decent game... if you can get around the moaning and heart-emitting. I had to turn off the sound after a while. Maybe I'll get a headset...
